Heroes of the Song

Do you believe in rest
Eternal even after your last breath?
The lasting sleep after
The smiling faces, the fading laughter

Do they truly rest when trapped in memories?
Like flickering candles frozen in time
Wispy facades against winter trees

This is all I have to show
Is it good enough for you?
I hope that one day you will know
The past days have all turned gray
Why did you have to go?
I hope you find your way

Father I hold tightly to your picture, so
Please don’t think I’m selfish
I just can’t stand to let you go

Veiled faces haunt my days
Like black umbrellas weathering the rain
The mournful songs after
The fading light, the dying laughter

I have scorned all of the tears that have been cried
But after twenty years she cries for you
Wish to see just one last kiss goodbye

Oh, the heroes of the song
Have been gone for far too long
I need a haunting in my home
It seems I lost you today
Why did you have to go?
Don’t ever fade away

So much lost in such little of time, fleeting
Just don’t think I’m selfish
Haunt my nights, I must be dreaming

I wake to an empty feeling
Your face is like falling grains of sand
Unable to grasp and hold on
Reunion in memory
I hope to see you again someday

This is all I have to show
Is it good enough for you?
I hope that one day you will know
The past days have all turned gray
Why did you have to go?
I hope you find your way

Oh, the heroes of the song
Have been gone for far too long
I need a haunting in my home
It seems I lost you today
Why did you have to go?
Don’t ever fade away
