The Cloak

It was once just a large black jacket with a long zipper in front
He'd wear a black hoodie beneath it, to make it look like a cloak
I laughed and told him of how I could make it a real cloak to keep
With trust he handed over the long black jacket and the black hoodie
I smiled at I carried the two home in my arms, smiling because
I knew I could do what I had promised and could do it within a couple days
He trusted me and his trust was well placed in my hands two jackets become a cloak
Off came the hood of the hoodie with a pair of silver german scissors
I invested some money into this project and bought new needles and thread
By hand I sewed the hood to the jacket, together they made a big cloak
I would cringe as the needle would sometimes miss the fabric altogether
Piercing the pads of my fingers drawing small droplets of blood to the surface
I would then smile and continue with my sewing, never stopping until it was half way done
I then had to thread my needle again and begin a new stitch
I pictured him in the new cloak and smiled, a small light burning in my heart
Once I was done I cut the thread as if cutting a red ribbon at a grand opening
Then I set the new cloak inside the wash machine to make sure the seams would hold
Once done washing I then placed it in the dryer as another sort of test on the seams
The seams held and didn't break and I was then proud of my work
Knowing that it would take a lot to break such strong seams
It took me two days to sow by hand the jacket and the hoodie together
By the time I was done I knew I had a small crush on the guy I was sewing for
But I set aside my feelings because I didn't think it could ever be more
Fast forward more then a couple months and you would now see me
Holding said cloak as I wait for the owner at lunchtime at school
For the owner is now my boyfriend and my bestfriend
And it all began with a small offer, a small favor indeed.
It all began with two jackets destined to become one cloak
So what can I say to end this small story except I hope you
Find your cloak, your excuse, for making a connection with someone you may love
