Praying for Love

- Praying for Love -

I wonder, sometimes, at why fate is so cruel,
In separating us from the ones we love most…
And I wonder who creates the harshest rule:
That separates us in death, leaving only a ghost!
Ghosts of memories, people, places and things,
Some which soothe and some which do sting…
Until we burn within from yearning with our all.
I still hear my beloved’s voice, its’ haunting call,
Reminding me that it was she I so loved before.
Yet I never met her yet in this current life, mine,
And others I loved left me wishing, for more…
For the missing piece of me, for which I pine.
As complete as I am, I still am not fully whole,
Without my love at my side, heavens to extol!

Am I being unfaithful to those lovers, fleeting?
Nay, for my heart belongs to my soul’s mate!
I found her not in them, and so I keep seeking,
Praying that time makes it not come too late…
Wishing the hour was upon me, my aching over.
I ache to hold her in my arms, to share a kiss,
To walk with her, to pick a single green clover:
To place it in her palm and sing to her of bliss!
She had so many faces down through the ages,
As did I, when in countless guises we did meet.
Thinking of my loneliness, my soul hotly rages,
At each lonely dawn that mine eyes do greet!
Where lies the magic in a sunrise spent pining?
Better, at the table of love to be forever dining.

Flashes of memory come to me in evening’s tide,
Ebbing, flowing, crashing upon my mind’s shores.
I cannot shield my sight from them nor ever hide,
From the ghosts of the past, old loves and wars!
Oh princess mine, was it yesterday I first met thee,
One time of many, such as that which I now state:
In thy palace: in Ys, in that great city by the sea…
One place of many, where I met my soul’s mate?
Naught now remains of that city, drowned deep,
Until history became legend: then mythical tales…
Kept the old things remembered, never to sleep.
But the beauty that was, before even thee pales!
When thy name was Dahut, thou were an angel,
Made flesh, a goddess incarnated on this Earth.
I remember the ringing of thy temple’s high bell,
In honor of the old ways and thy beauty’s worth!
Why does that life, that moment, stay so keen?
So clear in my memory as if it hath just occurred!
So many things art that way, which I have seen,
And see still, for my inner sight, is never blurred.

Better it be night eternally; let day be far away.
The sun holds no candle, to light of her eyes…
Whichever color they will be, whatever it may,
Please the gods to send me in sweet surprise!
I wouldst be happy to gaze upon that light only,
And never see the sun again, if it is the price…
Which I must pay to create for us, our destiny:
To let us dance together again, in fire and ice.
I have walked through those elements in time,
Seeking her in every one, whilst forgetting not:
The taste of her lips, and our love, my wine…
Which is sweet within me, in deed and thought.
Sweeter than grapes or pomegranates juicy…
My kiss wouldst be, a gift to her so blessedly!

I long to share it with her, to feel her warmth,
As we sit and laugh and jest about cosmic joy.
Every moment wouldst be new, like our first,
And I wouldst give her all the love I employ!
I still remember, all the names that were hers,
And mine as well, even before human words.
What name will she bear; must I so rehearse:
The poetry I will recite to her, in soft verse…
To remind her of our eternal love, as so it is?
Come to me soon my darling; I am waiting…
Preparing thy place at my side, and also this:
Room in my heart, which is ever anticipating,
The hour when our fingers touch once again!
Goddess, be swift, and to me my love send.
