Sunny Days

The warming sun christens
the beginning of days
during which we must learn
to share our space
with so many more.

For each scantily dressed
female there is something else
sinister and alarming.
The kids are with the crackheads
the mothers are with worse.

Bravado sways through the town
as sun-drunk students converse
loudly through piercing cackles.
Footwear and sunglasses make up
discussion.
Short skirts hide disease,
naked torsos disguise mental
weakness not so well.

The sun is shining
for them.
The delicate flowers,
their blooming pride,
empty faces.
They are alive

so they keep reminding me.
