Signs

There are things that don't align
With the pictures in our mind
Sometimes we read the signs
And still don't get it right

Going the wrong way is a risk we take
Trying to find that one door
That hides what we're looking for
Sometimes it's behind the one we ignored

The skies must have lied
When they opened up for us
The stars must have been out of line
When they shined for us
I must have been blind
When I saw one fall for us
Guess I was wrong to think
Those things meant anything to you

I don't claim to know everything
I realize impossibilities are stacking up on me
And I am wise enough to see
You're putting me away

This time I'm afraid it might be too late
I don't deny the sacrifice it takes
But I thought we agreed
Our strength is more than we get credit for

Sometimes goodbye is far too hard to say
So we let time drift and we fade away
But locked in our minds we contemplate
Did we miss what those signs were trying to say
