SHE
she was turning all their heads
just being in line at the market
and doing her thing
everybody was staring, pointing,
and whispering remarks under
their breath
why can't she just go about her business
without causing such a reaction?
I wonder how it must make her feel --
causing a spectacle almost everywhere she goes --
and my heart aches
indignation bubbles up inside of me at such ingnorance
it's 2014 after all
shouldn't we have come a lot further by now?
get with it people!!!

Intriguing piece Scarlet. I immediately ask "who is she and why do they stare?" But I decided that it doesn't matter who she is. Your piece, to me, is a commentary on judging another. I have learned from this piece...thank you.

I am often shocked at how ignorant people still are despite our so called modern times, and it sickens me that society is still so small-minded in many ways........ Makes me wonder too if things are slighty better in Europe and if people there are a little less ignorant overall.... Anyway thank you for commenting and being intruiged by my piece....

this was written in a very different format but I really liked it. I too wondered who you were talking about and why but I get the overall meaning.
I have never studied proper poetry formats, so mostly I write just how the poem forms in my mind, a freestyle of sorts, and yes I also left who she is rather vague, but I am happy that you got the overall message of the poem anyway......... ♡♡♡ :)

I liked how you made her universal, and that how we as humans evolved but not so much because we still act on our impulsive barbarous reaction when we see something different...nicely put

It is beyond me, why even today, people have not evolved much more than they have, particularly when it comes to people who seem outwardly different than others, but in the end are human beings who deserve to be treated with respect and dignity just as the rest of us does.......♡♡♡ :)
