Washed Away

The love I once had for you
Got lost in the river of my tears
Carried far away by the current
Of confirmation of all of my fears
You caused the water to form
Created waves around this heart of mine
Left me stranded at the shore
To get washed up over time
And submerged I sure did get
Buried way down below
Accustom to being wet
My cries lost their echo
The surface became the past
While beneath became my present
The water began to heal my cracks
And patch up what had been dented
I let the ocean shape me
Around my heart it built a shell
A transformation of who I used to be
So slight that you couldn't tell
A walking bundle of broken pieces
Made a subtle appearance upon the sand
My protected heart whispered for your love
But I never once reached out my hand
A reflection danced the icy blue
Much too vibrant to ever be mine
That's when I realized that I'd become brand new
And had the old me locked away inside
So off I went back to our home
And found you doing your usual
You had no notice of being alone
The feeling wasn't mutual
Despite the fact that you were near
I felt lonely at my core
I can't see what keeps me here
It's like I don't know you anymore
And I don't think you know me
When was the last time you looked inside?
I seem to slip beneath your fingers
You don't hold me so I slide
Falling to the floor so fast
I'm back up in record time
For once I can remain unsmashed
When you hurt this soul of mine
And so you go unaware
Of anything wrong that you're doing
Taking advantage of how you don't care
You're the one that I'm fooling
And it shouldn't be this easy
For me to harden myself to you
But when you just can't see me
Anger makes it simple to do
So I lived under your breath
Fighting on to keep us afloat
Did it till there was nothing left
And I became a sinking boat
Drowning fast into the depths of love
Under suffocation of burning sorrow within
I can't stay if I'm to rise above
This is a battle I won't ever win
