Poem ii
To tread upon grass and earth and stone
Is to tread on fallen empires, flesh and bone
Once raised high in honor and glory
Ravenous earth has razed their story
Those once whispered in tongues to fire
While in blackened lurking did death conspire
Through brightest days’ celebration lauding
The dragon’s tail swept marauding
Battlements made and were preparations ever
Still ill prepared, inadequate for the never
Repent now, shame and mourn your sin
Mourn for tomorrow is growing thin
Who are you, were you once to be
So much more save blinded eyes to see?
Victories are delusions of grandeur to hold
For how long and to whom should they be told?
Brace the levies and flee to high ground
The flood is coming to dampen the sound
That of a promise never to be broken
But the dying sun of the void is a token
Is to tread on fallen empires, flesh and bone
Once raised high in honor and glory
Ravenous earth has razed their story
Those once whispered in tongues to fire
While in blackened lurking did death conspire
Through brightest days’ celebration lauding
The dragon’s tail swept marauding
Battlements made and were preparations ever
Still ill prepared, inadequate for the never
Repent now, shame and mourn your sin
Mourn for tomorrow is growing thin
Who are you, were you once to be
So much more save blinded eyes to see?
Victories are delusions of grandeur to hold
For how long and to whom should they be told?
Brace the levies and flee to high ground
The flood is coming to dampen the sound
That of a promise never to be broken
But the dying sun of the void is a token
