HALLOWEEN IS NOT FOR AETHISTS
If you don’t believe in ancient behemoths beasts
Enchanted gardens, mystical forests or magic mountains
Haunted hills, ghostly worlds, or a Hell beneath
Nor in grotesque giants, walking skeletons
Flying griffons, screaming banshees, or stinking harpies
The living dead, be they mummies or zombies
In magical deer, magnificent birds and splendid unicorns
Or in evil eyed gorgons that can kill you with a glance
Nor in wizards, ghosts or witches; both good and bad
If you can’t imagine a lascivious dancing satyr
Or that a donkey can talk, let alone a talking tree
Or in fire breathing dragons, multi-eyed creatures from space
Nor in leviathans and other monsters of the deep
If you don’t believe in astrology, numerology, or eternity
Nor in extraterrestrial intelligence or the cosmic odyssey of infinity
As well as visions, epiphanies, auras of divinity and immortality
Or in other, unseen things ….like Halloween
Then my friend, you don’t believe in the Bible!”
People who don’t believe in ‘Tricks or Treats’
Such as you, are nothing more
Than atheists in denial
SO NO CANDY FOR YOU…MAGOO!

Waterviolet,
When I was a kid, I was grew-up in a small town, actually designated a village for because of its small size.
The village elders, with similar opinions as yours, decided in their infinite wisdom to out law trick or treating.
So we didn't dress up in costumes, nor did we go trick or treating. But not all was lost, cause we sure raised Holy Hell!
In fact one memorable prank we pulled was on an old spinster, who was the villages greatest advocate of the ban. We knocked on her door, but no, we didn't run away. We ran in. Holding hands, nearly 100 of us ran thorugh her front door, to out her back door, screaming as we went, but not loud enough to muffle he shrieks of her terror.
So dear waterviolet, best not answer the door on this Halloween. Just cause you don't want to give out treats, doesn't guarantee you won't be tricked.
Either way, HappyHalloween!

Atheists believe in death don't they. Halloween (or all hollows eve) is a day to remember those that have passed beyond the gate of death. All that extra shit about witches and spooks and goblins are all just extras. As for the going door to door thing.. that represents the druids who went door to door demanding payment or they will kill their children or something like that..Halloween isn't about Satan worship or anything like that. It's about embracing the things in life that make us all uncomfortable.. just saying know your stuff...

Dear Raven,
I am thee expert on "All Hallow Day". Keep in mind, it is a Christian Holiday, to be celebrated with mischief and revelry. In fact one fact of mischief changed all of history.

Of course Pagans celebrated it. Not as Halloween, but as the powers that befall the Fall Equinox.
And they had a 'Hell of a lot of fun'.

Dear me, now what did I go and do?
Folks, your taking me and my poem far to seriously.
I'm not try to apostolate to anyone, In fact, Halloween is my night for some real personal sinning.
Halloween is fun, and writing this poem was an exercise mischievous fun. I'm not a theologian or philosopher, just a blue collar grease monkey trying make a little sport.
Please lighten up a little.

Buck you didn't go and do anything Hun ! You have every right to write what you want in YOUR own personal poetry.
Don't listen to these clowns and why should you,
they came to your poetry and disrespected you and I know you would NEVER do something like to any poet in their personal space...
Great poem Buck.
Write on man!!!

Wow, I'd never thought I would learned many things about "Halloween". Thank you for coming up on this idea.
Though there are some minor arguments on the comment thread, it's what makes it more interesting.
Keep on going Buck. Cheers

Let's keep the personal attacks out of poem critique, and tend your own gardens as far as Christian vs. non Christian attitude.

Guys, although snuggle was asking for an honest critique, it doesn't mean that you can attack his personal character or beliefs. Remember to critique only the work, how it was done. When we write, we oftentimes assume the character that we are writing about, but in reality we could be totally opposite that character figure.
Bottomline, don't kill the messenger for bringing you bad news!
Nice piece by the way, snuggle...write on!

Interesting poem it made me smile at the end because the things you wrote were so real. Some people just dont research things for their self.
