Pride
After we parted
You proudly pronounced
That you’d never look back
Upon scorched earth
And promised faithfully
To accept my future ‘no’.
But faithful you aren’t
As both we may know.
So, move along, don’t ask again.
Won’t sell my pride cheap.
You proudly pronounced
That you’d never look back
Upon scorched earth
And promised faithfully
To accept my future ‘no’.
But faithful you aren’t
As both we may know.
So, move along, don’t ask again.
Won’t sell my pride cheap.

Thanks for your powerful commnent, dear Poe! Honored by it! Well, I tried to switch to the category 'Love Poems' without success. But the responses show that the category Anger seems to fit indeed better :-).

It's wise to not waste time twice. That's how I grasp it. (but regardless)you have a powerful mind with the penmanship to match it.

Pride equals love, I think. Without pride you can't be loved. Thanks for your thoughtful comment, John!

I don't know how I feel about
pride, but I think self respect
is at the core of this, at the
centre of survival...

You are absolutely right, Paul,
we're talking about self respect.
Unfortunately that term didn't fit nicely into the poem :-) but surely it is meant.
Loosing your self respect means loosing your self.
Thrilled that you love the poem :-)!!! Thank you!

Absolutely I agree with Paul, You need to have self respect without it you're nothing. Enjoyed it Chi.
