flor solitaria

she was just another desert flower
who broke her own heart
by loving the wrong guy
she fell hard into every dream
believed every lie

I ride into town on a thunderstorm
for a woman with a bottle & an empty bed
then ride out with the wayward wind
but that doesn’t make me an outlaw –
was there ever a saint who never sinned?

there are songs we sing in a fever
& a passion that’s meant to be stolen
from the shallows of reason & rhyme
so brand me a brutal & savage lover –
the sex you remember is never sublime

don’t weep, broken flower, when I’m gone
with a burr in my saddle & a rebel yell
burning obdurate bridges with a single flame
dream on of the lust you were lessoned –
Hermosa...kiss me farewell & forget my name
