Looking Back
You never looked at me
With eyes beyond the superficial
You only saw surface images
That I presented
Attempts to show you
Went unappreciated
Because you never had interest
In my true view
Why see me in raw form
When I'm complex and emotional
Sensitive to the smallest things and
Hurt when you do me wrong
I was just an inconvenience
Only good for what you needed
You were satisfied with abstract
And never wanted the full picture
My smile was my best asset
You always loved the mask I wore
No incentive to look beneath
When it never benefited you to see
A smile is a smile
Pay no mind to its roots
As long as it's firmly planted
There's no need to worry about a thing
But you were supposed to know me better
Better than anyone else
Yet I could run from you so far
And you'd never reach out to help
Good thing I never cared for your attention
You were always incapable of coming through
So I hid in distant shadows
So much of me you never knew
You couldn't hear the pain in my voice
Or see tears held back in my face
\No distance when I slept next to you
As long as I'm here what is there to notice?
Of course as long as you filled me up
You'd never feel the dark emptiness
Because my broken touches still made you whole
And then conversations were too hard to have
And I'd have told if you had asked
Because I wanted what we had to last
But you just didn't care
And there was no changing that
If there's one thing I'm glad for
It's that I've escaped your lies
And look at me now
I'm stronger than before
But the one thing I still seem to hate
Is how you looked at me
Never at all with love
Only as warm bedding to lay
Nothing like...
How I
Always looked
At you
With eyes beyond the superficial
You only saw surface images
That I presented
Attempts to show you
Went unappreciated
Because you never had interest
In my true view
Why see me in raw form
When I'm complex and emotional
