International Senior Citizens Day!

Today is a very special day! It's not just another  normal Thursday on your calendar.  Today is the day we open our eyes and hearts; listen and be EMPOWERED!
 
In 1999, August 21st became an Internationally recognized day.  On this day people just like you and me across the globe, are celebrating the wisdom and achievements, of those who have and will continue to help mold our great societies, those that instill us with so much Love & Hope!

Today is not just another day of the week.  We as the "Younger Generation" have an important duty a costly but worthy debt each and everyone of us owe, a place to find, a position to hunt for & except, its invaluable knowledge we need to seek.  

We will need to advocate for the rights of those aging before us.  It is Our turn to stand beside these amazing individuals, guide them as they have us, they are so much more then aging adults they represent past, present, and future.  Even more importantly they are Our elders, Our EQUALS!

These older persons are  Family, Friends, Loved Ones, and even strangers; let each of them see we are incredibly grateful for their efforts.  We will not let all their memories of lost blood, sweat, and tears become forgotten or their integrity endangered.

Let us prove to them we will uphold the knowledge and values they have shared.  Show them, we have listened well, that there is no need to worry or for any of them to be nervous and scared.

Today we as the "next generation" will stand beside those who have paved our way, today we close the gap, we will use the knowledge we have gained to lead those who have been pushed aside, or somehow lead astray.

We will make known to our nations, states, cities, and towns; everyone has a right to live their lives to the fullest; age is a right of passage, not just a number we write down!

Our elders are wise beyond our years, We need to support them, all that we possibly can, give their words our undivided attention, not one but two wide open ears, and of course a smile and a loving hand to steady them when they are shaky, and to squeeze while they quiet their fears.

We must hurry to find that older person, a correct and worthy platform, when they have something to say, lets face it they are our gateway to the past, not words in a history book; but first hand accounts of our nation full of horrible mistakes year after year!

Fair warning to the chosen audience, there are no sensors or filters, at any moment, everything and anyone could be called out and put on the spot.  They speak, we listen, even if our temperature starts to rise from cool to flaming HOT!

It does not matter what topic, there are no rules, they choose; anything from the state of our economy, political views, socialization, even religion, just to name a few.

I can tell you from personal experience, there really is no need to argue or debate, in the end you will learn they are almost always right!  So save yourself the humiliation; process all of their wise words, learn as much as you possibly can, don't waste your breath on a fight you couldn't possibly have equal knowledge to win!

Having said all that, all the cards face up on the table, I have one last request, a challenge, if you will; but let me warn you this proposal, will not be easy, it is not by any means a fairy tale or fable.

I CHALLENGE you all to join with me and unite our forces, make a vow, cash in on a small portion of the debt we all owe and must repay; make a difference in another's life, give someone back their forgotten, stolen, or lost voice.

If not everyday, then at least just this one because today I told you is very special!  TODAY IS AUGUST 21ST 2014, & THAT MEANS TODAY IS NOT JUST ANOTHER DAY!  BECAUSE IT'S INTERNATIONAL SENIOR CITIZEN'S DAY!
