you are...

You are the midnight crack in the wall
barely shielding me from the abyss
on the other side

You are the car crash
where no one dies
but no one survives

I am laden with these obsessions
that scratch at the plasterboard
in the hope they'll find the body bag
between the bricks and mortar

Today is one where I am less
though not for the lack
of wanting to be more

These cravings pull at my darkest depths
wanting me to join them in the slipstream
but like the rip survivor
I've not quite recovered from the undertow
that promised to drown me in ecstasy
last time
though I still believe in your dark romance

Never mind that you could orchestrate
the art of my death
I'm not whole enough to say
I wouldn't let you
and yet not broken enough
to lie down for you without question

You are my midnight crack in the wall
when the world has gone to sleep
telling me all the lies I want to hear
that there is somewhere more beautiful
than here
