black-out curtains on the mirrors

You said it doesn't feel right
being alone in your skin
with only your skin for company

And for once in our lifetime
I couldn't relate
when nothing felt more right
than the emptiness on the
other side of my bed

My skin is my temple
and my tomb
but I've learnt the long
and hard way
that it's mine

Loneliness be damned
I won't cut myself open
for anyone willing and wanting
to slip inside my skin
with a tattoo gun and pretty words
to scar up my soul
just like everyone before them

The next heart will have to earn
their way inside

You said it doesn't feel right
being alone in your skin
with only your skin for company

I think you've never known
what it's like to truly be alone
at peace with that reflection
in the mirror
