Not In Sight, But Still In Mind?

Origins many splendid epics
Divided by cultures united by cause
Questions lessened and distorted
Not enough time give to pause
If human manages to survive long enough
To understand maxims of life
Anxieties that plaque each generation
The furtive nature of all strife

"These mist-covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn
To be brothers in arm"

I have no quarrel with the sentries
Who are awake while civilians soundly rest
Afraid I am of those who bark the orders
When peace is so in distress
No longer linked to a human adversary
Remote killing nice and neat
After the last flag has surrendered
The source of the conflict isn't close to defeat

"Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I've witnessed your suffering
As the battle raged high
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms"

The heart of your darkness
Can be channeled to illuminate light
And even with different belief systems
We can still achieve a common sense of right

"There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones"

Age will temper the impulsive nature
And lessen a thirst in revenge for the scars
The dove still can soar high
Can brake free of the bars
I will not be a witness to it
Yet I still have belief
That your children will embrace it
And be spared ancestors grief

"Now the sun's gone to hell
And the moon riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line in your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms"
