Shepherds of the Dead

Time flies as I scry
My love in God’s embrace
Purgatory stands between
Us and one more kiss
But I am left with this scar
That festers with memory
Of you picking nightshade
By the moon light
A flitting wisp between trees
Like a siren beckons
Foolish me to my death

The autumn air laments its song
Sweet and mourning
Of times so long gone
When we lay in each others arms
In burning leaves
Just to keep us warm

I remember the taste of lips
Glossed with pumpkin
The sway of your hips
Thirteen black candles are burning
To remember
A gift blackened ring

The blurring of my dreams
In those cold nights
By lantern light
Fend off the things that scream

Specters and phantoms encircle
Outside the flames
The moon bright and full
The black cats are enchanting now
Singing the spells
Keep at bay the hounds

Here in the heart of night
Where devils seed
And children plead
I need your phantom light

The cemetery and cold mist
Hide the nightmares
Beg for one last kiss
The dead shamble and pine away
For warmth of life
To show them the way

With this ring I will wed
In life of death
Through the last breath
We will shepherd the dead
