1971

Summer's coming, time to dream the day away
I was 15 on a Baltic Cruise and we had just left Stockholm
And she's so sunny is the girl you met today
She was called Jayne from the upper decks
Will she make it? can she take it?
She smelt of fresh green apples and she was looking only at me
Like to try love, such a shy love
We merely held hands and then danced very slowly
Ragged back street, leaning on the wall
I felt her warmth, can I be your girlfriend?
She weaves a story of her life before it all
She make me feel special
Did she give love? could she feel love?
She oused love, I smiled for I felt like the king of the world
Did she find love? was it real love?.
Maybe we did As our hearts were racing and there was innocent joy in our eyes
Where's your smile today?
I just felt elated and happy, contentment made simple
Did she let you down?
How could she ever let me down, in that simple polka dot dress
Try to see she didn't mean to
That is until the disco was over
Make you feel so sad
As she returned to the upper decks
It was just one night in the summer of 1971
A few magical hours out of a momentous year
Jim Morrison died
Wily Brandt won the Nobel Peace Prize
Twenty-sixth Amendment to US Constitution lowers voting age to 18. (June 30).
Intel introduces the microprocessor.
Grammys awarded in 1971
Record of the Year: "Bridge Over Troubled Water," Simon and Garfunkel
Album of the Year: Bridge Over Troubled Water, Simon and Garfunkel (Columbia)
Song of the Year: "Bridge Over Troubled Water," Paul Simon, songwriter
Yet what  I remember from 1971 was one night with a beautiful young girl in a red polka dot dress
Who I have never seen since
Makes me feel so sad

Guess what Song was playing to trigger this poem?
