I'd agree, although there are
exceptions, Thomas Hardy
being one, of course...
and often the appreciation
of poetry lingers long past
the dying of the lyrical
youth, contemplation being
a lasting pleasure...
good observations.
i...i was careful from the beginning with this piece to say "a poet" not "the poet," originally intending it to be a scene from one "poet's" point of view about his or her self, and not a statement about poets in general. it was really a mature version of something i wrote a couple years ago. and, with this way of looking at the piece, your observation of continued contemplation fits quite well...but contemplation is not the preview solely of "poets," of course.
