They March On

Fireworks and sounds of silence
deaf to cries, silent tears
they march on unheeding
of exploding earth, and bursting skies
phantoms speak and whisper fear
as they sleep on narrow beds

they shoot without guns
capturing, immortalising scenes
frozen faces with dead grins
forever caught in half wave
soon flesh to be picked from the ground
and they march on

mothers with screaming faces
children sweet babies
tattered and torn on the ground
empty faces of new orphans
babies ripped from the womb
their blood screaming on the street

they shoot thousands of footages
they get shot, camera fall
another take up the flag
they march, with horror and fear
making themselves armours
from hearts’scabs peeled repeatedly

defend those without
that’s what they do too
show those above
who they have passed over
the needy who need to be seen
the land that need to be tilled

there are elderly left to die
in nursing homes by uncaring children
the sick left without treatment
villagers in places fit for politicians
only to come and beg for votes
during the elections

they march on and on
on their thankless missions
to inform, to educate, to entertain
without discrimination
against race, religion, sexual orientation,
and physical or mental disabilities.
