Out of the Darkness
we all like to believe we were born to own the world
to build our homes
and call this land our own
while the earth spins in circles
we're blinded by our pride
the need to rule it all
this world never was our own
we don't own the sky
we can't place a price on the seas
we can't make imitations of the air we breathe
we seethe with hatred and spit on the grass
we disgrace the earth
we pillage her land
and so we march on
our rifles facing rifles
our bombs striking dirt
as we dig up precious metals
from the earth
we burn and cut down trees
for the need to please the greed
of millions of consumers
with ungrateful mouths to feed
unconsciously we try to fill the empty void in our hearts
we fill it with distractions and lust
when really all we're looking for is love
where is the compassion in our souls?
the regret in our eyes as we burn down homes
we kick each other down
we throw ourselves around
in little circles we try to retrace our steps
we go up in smoke until there's nothing left
there's a hunger in our eyes
the need to circulate lies
to feed to the people
and tell them everything will be alright
like sheep they follow
like cattle they are led to the slaughter
killing each other left and right
our sons and our daughters
and no.. it doesnt have to be this way
we can still make a change
to make this world of ours a better place
get rid of hate
and fill your being with love
maybe we'll see something new
stirring in the heavens above
to see a day
where nations don't go to war
to see a day
where companies will see true talent
and for once not slam their doors
to find a way to coexist
and it doesnt matter if
your gay, lesbian, straight
christian muslim, pagan,
latter day saint
to see a day
where the homes of innocent creatures
aren't burnt with evil joy
to see trees being planted
faster than they are destroyed
that for once we won't kick people beneath us
for once we will see each other not as inferior
but as equals
that one day we will finally come together
and realize that love
love is what really mattered
to build our homes
and call this land our own
while the earth spins in circles
we're blinded by our pride
the need to rule it all
this world never was our own
we don't own the sky
