Image for the poem He Didn

He Didn't Dance

happy feet they came together
drumming out a thumping rhythm
heels tapping furiously
but you know, he didn't dance
he kept a vigil by the door
he couldn't dance without her

He never once stopped and look
he didn't think it worth
to explore unknown life's pulse
to stop the other before its done
to discard the one he loved most
although she's much too far away

no she didn't come through the door
no blooms fell from glittery skies
or sounds of owls or whipoorwills
she didn't whisper into his ears
promises and kisses of sweetness
but he knew the depth of her love

so he stood vigil by the door
a bouquet of his heart and soul
wrapped in gold in his arms
orchestra of music throbbing
in the stream of his life blood
poetry in his patient passion.
