tandem

pleasant as early autumn
August's unexpectedly soft skin
sheds its adolescence
through marshmallow syllables

it is through the second week
of the last month in summer
and the weather is impeccable

words are a sweet stuck between teeth

the season usually bleeds concrete
around cotton
blowing dandelions
into a vacuum
the heat acting as an adhesive mesh
sticking the littlest flying whims
to the linens hung on the horizons clothesline

this year the days pass with an ease to hours
and the aviators return home each day

the air speaks of peace
when the war can be left
and all the apologies have been spent

let them be received where they will

a truly lovely day
can be enough
