Summer fling

It wasn't supposed to happen this way
We didn't know each other prior to summer;
I wasn't supposed to fall so deep
and now I see you even in my slumber.

You were there in every party I went to,
Summer had arrived and everyone was there,
I looked at you from day one
did you find me attractive at all?

Come join me to another party, one night you said,
out of the blue like a shooting star in the middle of the night
It will be more fun than this and won't leave your sight,
you promised as your fingers interlocked with mine.

The party was sillier than anything else
everyone there was drunk and doing drugs,
I questioned in my mind, was this your idea of fun?
You saw my expression, you never would have guessed.

I'm fine, I said as I took another shot of vodka,
I hated to see people waste their lives like that,
but who was I to judge? I wasn't different at all,
you smiled at me and had a sip of your rum and Cola.

To a handful of parties like this you took me
with each one taking one more shot, one more tease
never completing the cycle, never finding that kiss
but you never left my sight, our holding hands keeping me at ease.

The night was coming to an end and we were unable to drive
My place is around the corner, come stay with me, you begged;
Was this going to be our final destination? I thought
Unable to believe what would happen next, but too drunk to fight against it.

You stripped me out of my clothes, kissing everywhere but my lips
You thanked me for taking care of you, for not leaving your sight;
Wasn’t it the other way around? With your promises and caring glares,
I just smiled at you while I was still waiting on that kiss.

You took me down a road of ecstasy
Both of us sweating liquor and sex
Foolish of me to think you would never leave
Stupid of me to believe it was anything more
Than a crazy summer fling
