I wish you would realize
And open your eyes
To the sight of your reality
It's worse than what you're telling me
Smile and say you're fine
Greatest lie of all time
I know what you're trying to do
But there's so much better in you
You could work through this mess
And release all this stress
The substance that you seek
Will only leave you weak
Sure now life's easy to bear
But you won't find any comfort there
Chemicals don't play fair
They have a tendency not to care
You can drown in all they provide
But it won't heal pain inside
Mask the damage easier to hide
Continue the cycle night after night
A life broken can't be fixed
Not when you're doing it like this
You deserve to exist
Must find happiness within
Gotta let suppressed feelings go
Watch expression take control
Free your mind release your soul
It's the only way and this I know
You hang by thin threads of hope
Just barely able to cope
But at least you keep yourself afloat
That's how you justify this road
Not a concern for reliance
Intuition ignored and silenced
Mentality keeps you defiant
Forget the body isn't always compliant
There's nothing wrong with medication
For a temporary haven
But when you use it for sedation
You'll get trapped in escaping
From one bad path to another
It's interesting to discover
How hushing problems through smother
Only creates more to fall under
Ironic how you crave a life of substance
Pretty sure this is not what was meant
You want meaning and not a touch less
You've got to hold on to what's left
But you won't listen to what I say
I know this and that's okay
So I'll just sit and hope one day
That you can see there's a better way
Where you choose to find your inner strength
Do the work it takes to achieve great lengths
If you were willing to dig down to such depths
I know you'd swim to the surface without losing your breath
