Missing The Message

I sometimes check out Facebook the Beatles group and such
came across an entry which really was too much
berating a society which lets Lennon's killer live
"the scum shouldn't be breathing his life he should give"
ridiculed the state of New York for at the time having no death penalty
"sleazy lawyers and bleeding" hearts for this guy it was plain to see

I had the nerve to write I was uncomfortable with the tone
with me he decided that he wanted to pick a bone
added to the exchange was another both trying to make me see
that I was so misguided and had "no sense of reality"
suggested that I would feel different if my family member been slain
that I knew nothing about the sadness and the pain

Now i don't intend to get too political so just a glimpse of my world view
I hope that I am not too idealistic even if those in my ranks are few
he said he is "for an eye for eye" my only response or plea
is as Gandhi stated with this belief how can any of us see?
the list would be pretty long of family members who didn't seek death
realizing that a murder's execution would not bring back their loved one's breath
includes Yoko Ono, the Kennedys, Correta Scott King
you would think their wishes wouldn't be ignored things

I know not why on a Beatles' page
he retold the murder- maybe to express an internal rage
by making an obvious political attack with only one way to believe
maybe even thinking me not sincere and for John I didn't grieve
regardless of his position on capital punishment was that really the place
a page devoted to a group of such hope is that really the proper space
embracing the free expression of all I didn't suggest a cease
but remember that Lennon tried to be a man of peace

Again for those who embrace the death penalty it is my hope
that personal attacks are not the method that you feel inclined to cope
with those who don't see things the way you do
if you really want those of my ilk to get a clue
a calm discussion offers an exchange without constructing immovable lines
allows the probing and examining of issues and engaging of the minds

For like the grace and beauty of a symbol like the dove
for Paul, George, John, and Ringo the answer was always really love
