shadows of poetry

You act like I'm not a part of you anymore
as though I never moved the poetry in your bones
and the lyrics of our songs
from your lips to mine

The streets no longer know our names
in tandem
our shadows now ghosts
on the places our passions used to haunt

I am not the same in absense of your words
and when the lights go out
and I struggle to speak
I fear you have grown me in poetry
and have left me with nothing to say
but long good byes
in the language only loneliness understands
where I can only watch
the world move around me
while unable to break through
the glass ceiling of my own failed ambitions

Did I want too much from the imploding stars?
Did I ask for too many words
to fall from your parted lips
and into my soul
without filling yours back up with verse?

And now when our shadows pass
on those long neglected streets of memory
you act like I was never a part of you
as though I never moved the poetry in your bones
into the beauty of us
the way we used to be
