"Graduation"
*July 1, 2014*
In his loving memory, I write.
A very dear friend passed on this morning at 2:18 AM. He was the tender age of eighty-three years and ninety-seven days.
He was preceded in death by two sons, seven and ten years prior, and his lovely wife two years ago.
You could say, I am his only surviving (adopted) family member.
The last friend to see him alive, in physical form, just yesterday. I stopped by the hospital on the way home from work. He was recovering from surgery, looking good, doing well. We spoke of 'bushes' I had trimmed at his house, and shared some laughs. Yes, he had the gift of humor.
It seems a blood clot robbed him of future entertainment.
He was an Air Force veteran, loving husband, doting father, and dedicated employee until retirement in 1997.
He and his angelic bride were married nearly sixty years. They reared two sons, who both grew into successful, married men, though neither had children.
Their lineage now reunited in the great beyond. A family reunion where spirits celebrate their graduation from this gravity laden sphere.
He was my (adopted) Dad, close friend, buddy, confidant, mentor, neighbor and routine dinner guest.
He is greatly missed, already.
I weep, and smile, and celebrate.
"Congratulations on this, your graduation."

Such a nice tribute for a well deserving person...my condolences for your loss!
(I'm assuming he was assigned in Nellis Air Force Base, where my daughter used to live before buying a house in North Las Vegas.)
You have a good heart VegasPoet...

Your condolences are much appreciated, EngrVV.
He served at Wright-Patterson AFB, near Dayton, OH. His youngest son was stationed here at Nellis for several years. Having visited many times, it led them to move here upon retirement.
Thank you.

This ink made me happy, sad and scared all at once.
"I weep, and smile, and celebrate.
"Congratulations on this, your graduation."
^^^happy and sad as I share in these sentiments. Scared because of an upcoming surgery this month.(I'm allowed to be scared, even with faith)
This was so beautifully sad to read Vegas! You've done an phenomenal job of painting a glimpse of his last hours, so glad you had a chance to see him before he graduated. May he Rest on...and may you find comfort in memories shared. Xo

Ms Rain, your comforting words are met with sincere gratitude.
Yes, though we have faith, it is common to fear leaving our loved ones behind. Like you, I enjoy living.
For what it is worth, I sense you have many more wildflowers to sprout and nurture. Your mission shall continue. Fear not.
I will be forever grateful for the years shared with him and his family. Words cannot express.
Thank you. xo
