All the Young Stallions

A tribute to the brave men of all nations who bought our freedom with their blood and sailed into Normandy 6th June 1944. May their memory be blessed and cherished evermore.

All the young stallions prancing with pride
How many have fought? How many have died?
Sea horses riding the crest of a wave
Consumed and condemned to a watery grave
They knew before the clarion it called
They knew that history would be appalled
But still they charged on despite the fear and dread
They knew on the morrow a great host would be dead

What courage was theirs that a whole generation
Plunged to the fore despite consternation
Not for themselves this band of brave brothers
They did it for freedom, they did it for others
They did it for peace home and beauty
They did it because they thought it their duty
And these stallions they came from many a land
Their precious blood spilt on the Normandy sand

Most stallions are gone to the heavenly stable
Their courage a legend must never become fable
The inheritance of freedom they've handed on
To guard and to cherish and when we are done
Trust to the keep of our childrens' safe hand
The price of our freedom they must understand
And defy all dictators brook no hindrance or let
Then bequeath to their offspring lest they forget

With deep respect and grateful thanks
