Image for the poem Lady Mourgan

Lady Mourgan

A journey through woods, silently
In the chill of night
With the frosted air, patiently
Preserving the sight

Of pasted pictures
Framed with scriptures
The old pipe organ
Plays the tune of
Lady Mourgan

She wasted all her days
Chasing those cherubs
And trickster gods
She lasted all those gray
Company with fauns
And jaded flaws

On gilded tablets
In beryl goblets
Spittle of gorgons
Hiss the name of
Lady Mourgan

One step from the grave
Lovers spell casters
They seal her fate
They tarnished Mourgan’s name
With scarlet letters
Tattooed her face

Nightly feedings
With sewer rats
Her company
Fled from her sight
From this vile beast
Unwashed, unloved
Banished in tears
To the outskirts
To meet her fate

A journey through tombs, silently
With death in the air
A fresh rotted stench, patiently
Fills her with despair

On burning pages
In iron cages
The old pipe organ
Plays the tune of
Lady Mourgan

She was wasted and gray
Frozen in death throes
The last caress
In death she still prayed
Hands point to Heaven
Embraced with death

In nightly stories
In tainted glory
Spittle of gorgons
Hiss the name of
Lady Mourgan
