"Debt"
During the Autumn of 1989
after reading an article relating
to a National Debt Clock
which had been installed in
the Times Square area
At that time it reflected the U.S. debt
as being nearly 2.8 trillion dollars
$2,800,000,000,000
I set out to fully comprehend the value of one trillion
I thought, how long would it take
to reach 1,000,000,000,000
if I tried to count, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ...
It soon became apparent, counting to one trillion
by a single human being was impossible
That's right
It is impossible
Here's why
If we could count one number per second
twenty-four hours per day
seven days a week
365.25 days a year
the number of years required
to arrive at one trillion seconds is
31,688 years, and 40 days
Think about it
365.25 days x 24 hours
equals 8,766 hours or 525,960 minutes
or 31,557,600 seconds in one year
Here is the calculation
1,000,000,000,000 ÷ 31,557,600 (seconds in one year)
equals 31,688.11 (years)
The debt currently exceeds 17.4 trillion dollars
$17,400,000,000,000 ... and increasing exponentially
Wake up people!
