I Am

We are equal, We are one
We are the people
without “we”, We are undone

“No not I”, I said to We
I am individual
without We, I am free

There is an I and Me in CRIME
that’s what they told me
And it is in that principle I used to confide

They, Us, and We
two may be better than one
until I start suppressing what I believe

Don’t say the Unspeakable Word
don’t let it slip from your lips
We must forget, so it will remain unheard

Insurgent be I, untamable I be
I let it spill with pride from my lips
“Ego” and then it was there I could see

No god, master, or king can abolish I
no doctrine, law, or force
can ever take what is mine

What I want, I will
What I dream, I create
What I long for, I fulfill

To be I is to be a god
to be We is to be enslaved
I refuse, I will it not

Us and We be damned
I have the freedom of choice
the freedom to say, “I Am”
