Escape

The smell of urine and dirt assaulted my nose, as I ran through the dark, cluttered hallway. My hands still cuffed behind my back made it difficult to support my balance. While I heard his heavy footfalls echoing in pursuit and rats scurried silently before me.
Although I stumbled against graffiti walls, I didn't stop.

But I questioned, as I followed the small stampede, were they leading me to my escape or were they in cahoots with my captor?
Yet I had no choice but to pursue, as if I could hear the pied piper's song.

I smiled as hope sprang anew when the dawn of my escape came into view. But just as the horizon of my freedom crest; it was closed shut. When my abductor's strong grip placed me back in the pit of his darkness.
