Case Night Out

Walking in, a smile on his face
Slow motions into the bar
Ordering a pint, chases it with another
He doesn’t see admiring eyes
Just drinks, listening to the music
From the old jukebox

Bumping into him
is the biggest mistake
he doesn’t like his waistcoat wet
looking around, catching attention
this published poet
stands on the stool and says…

My name is Case, Alexander Case
don’t look at my gut look at my face
remember me when I am done with you
you will look like a rook on a nook
with nothing to stand on but a book
plagiarizing poems I once wrote
says he to an astonished audience

I don’t care to chat
or know your town’s history
no, I don’t want to look up
that sweet pretty chick
asking for my autograph
just tell me all the right spots
the watering holes
and night spots to chill in

I want to dance the night away
I want to have a good time
Show me the places where
dancing and singing
happens all the time
he says….just show me some fun

he sits on the couch
at the corner of the bar
guests are getting up and going home
nodding into his pint…
then he starts to snore
his host stares at him
and shrugs, put in a coin
in the Jukebox.
