swallowing screams

My throat is hoarse
coarse, loaded
my fingers ache to wrap themselves
around the air and strangle
it’s unending voice

I am everything I shouldn’t be
I am cold and cruel and angry
I am violated and unheard

The walls have turned their ears
from the screams
I don’t know how to swallow

Everyone is talking
but no one is listening
it could be the story of my life
only I am no better
a perpetual victim
to my own crimes

So I stand alone in the rain
and hope this rage will fizzle out
