You Should Have...............
(a memory of an anniversary I'd just as soon forget)
You Should Have..........
....never gotten up with me from the start
You should have never come here to leave me and break my heart.
You should have never tried to even travel down this road
When you clearly knew the rocky path we’d have to go
You should have never placed all our love on just one day
On that one decision, you simply threw us all away
You should have never opted to leave me with just one choice
You should have listened with your heart; you should have listened to my voice
You Should Have......................
You should have never left me without making love to me just one more time
We should have parted fondly but now I’m feeling so damned unkind
You should have seen that there was way more good than bad
You should have known my heart; should have known you’d hurt me bad
You should have known we’ll never share another kiss or laugh
Should have held on to a friend that you may no longer have
You should have focused on the things that truly made us great
Now I’m thinking there’s a thin line between love and hate
And You Should Have................
You should have known I’m an all or nothing man
Should have thought about this before you took your stand
You say you hope my feelings don’t turn into hate
But the more I think about it, it might be too late
You probably thought that you had weighed all the cost
You should have thought about our love that now
You may have lost
“If you love something, then you set it free.
If it don’t come back to you, then it wasn’t meant to be”
But when you love someone, you never just let go
And in that action, there’s so much of me that you’ll never know
And in my anger , deep inside there’s love within
In hopes that one day again we can be friends..............

ahh i know the feeling. i'm in the navy and my gf just broke up with me 3 weeks ago 3 days before i left for my command in Spain. we were 4 days away from 11 long hard months together. it was very sudden, and i know she didn't think it all through. i just published a poem about it being too late for her lol. love the poem. we seem to be in similar situation with an ex
