Spirit
Nourish your spirit, they said
and I did, in books and movies
cups of coffee and lifelong dreams
I sought out the passions of my soul
exorcised my demons of failure
and opened by heart to the possibility
of dreams coming true
Nourish your spirit, they said
and I tried, in words and actions
new faces and unchartered places
I took the old and made it new again
shed my skin and tried to find the best
in every storm-clouded situation
that marked my skin with kisses of acid rain
Nourish your spirit, they said
open your mind and believe
as though hope was an end in itself
I clung to the faith of their words
took the back-handed bruises
that manifested under my skin
and learnt to invent new realities
Nourish your spirit, they said
fill yourself with all things meaningful
beauty is the light of hope...
