The Holy Spirit is the HUSBAND Figure
In a family
A man plays 3 main roles:
Father,son and husband.
A man plays the son in one family,
But moves up to husband and father in a later family.
Likewise within the Holy Trinity,
There are:
God the Father,
God the Son,
And God the Holy Spirit.
You would think that the third person
would be, God the Husband,
In keeping with the 3 male roles
In the typical human family.
So, the Holy Spirit seems to be
set up to play the husband figure.
Sure enough, the Bible confirms this line of reasoning.
For we read, "The Spirit and the Bride say,
'Come,..Come Lord Jesus'"(Revelation 22.17-20).
My point is that "The Spirit and the Bride.."
Are presented here as a couple, a pair.
Ordinarily, the term that logically goes
with "the bride" is what? "The bridegroom".
So, we can paraphrase Rev 22.17-20 like this:
"The Groom and the Bride say, 'Come..Lord Jesus'".
Yes, the Spirit seems to have a husband role.
(Or at least a husband-like role.)
But Christ is the husband figure
to the Church,the wife figure(Ephesians 5.25-28).
So how can the Spirit be the husband
If Christ is already the husband?
Well, this is where the Law of Moses comes to the rescue.
When your brother dies(Deuteronomy 25.5-10; Matthew22.24)
You take his widow as your own wife.
So that she can have children
to carry on the family name,
to receive the inheritance,etc.
Christ is the original husband.
But He has died and gone to heaven.
The Church is therefor His "widow"(Revelation 18.7).
So this sets up the Holy Spirit
to be the Brother who marries that widow.
The children can be called Christ's,
Yet at the same time they belong to the Holy Spirit.
