The Welcome Wagon

Welcome to my world,
I hope you enjoy your stay
in a place where everyone's crying;
where faces are gaunt and grey.
A place where everyone's hungry,
though we have food to spare,
and everybody is searching
for someone to love and care.
Nobody really has enemies
because nobody really has friends -
no one to step in and die for,
no one to save in the end.

Everyone feigns acceptance
of things they don't understand;
things that actually scare them;
their morals as stable as sand.
The truths that someone might die for
aren't really truths at all.
In a world where everything's backwards,
we walk before we can crawl.
A world of peace and war:
free speech only if you don't talk,
and peace only if you ignore
the bomb that went off down the block.

So welcome to my world.
What! You leave so soon?
Goodbye before the hello?
Why, it's not even noon.
I get it, I would leave too,
but the chain around my wrist.
I'll be here awhile longer
feigning ignorance of bliss.
