Good Ghosties

I just had to spend one night.
On a bet that I'd run in fright.
I went to see just what may roam.
In the halls of the murder home.
At first it all was fine,
I even had a little wine.
Suddenly, there came a change.
All the furniture had rearranged.
Just when I had passed it off,
I heard a disembodied cough.
       But there was only me,
       No one there but me.
There came to my ears, a crash.
That's when I began to dash.
To the door I tried to run.
But I fell down upon the rug.
I flip over, and crab walk back,
knocking down an old coat rack.
Against the door, eyes dart to and fro,
What made the noise? I just had to know.
After a moment, my heart ceased to pound.
Slowly, I stood, getting up from the ground.
I take a step, moving ever so slow.
Then take another, I just had to know.
I hear a thump, something slides on the floor.
It came from upstairs, with the creak of a door.
Standing still, my blood runs cold.
On my shoulder, something lays hold.
       But where I felt pressed,
       no hand did there rest.
I hear a call, just off to my right.
My eyes dart there, near lost in my fright.
No one was there who could make the call.
No one was there, no one at all.
I close my eyes, heart pounds again.
I open my eyes to a visage that grins.
This time I scream, my knees near unhinged,
Then it is gone, my shoulder feels singed.
I pull my shirt to see the mark.
The stairs creak, up there in the dark.
I hear a laugh and a step taken down.
I leave my stuff, not hanging around.
I make for the door in one final burst.
I've made up my mind, this place is cursed.
I'm glad to make good on this wager lost.
I just want to go home, no matter the cost.
I see something wrong when I reach the door.
Somehow I stand here, but I'm still on the floor.
It slowly sinks in that I'm here for good.
I start to moan, like good ghosties should.
