FIELD OF BLACK...

I hear the utter sorrow in song.
Siren wails that pass through
the branches of naked trees.
In night, lonely lights peak a haze
over rooftops of the dreaming children
we all are.
Heavy steps echo from the vast field of blackness
in front of me.
I send in a stern syllable of question.
The nothing that answers back,
turns a curious fear, that beckons me closer.
This field speaks only
that which I project into it,
and I quickly learn to concentrate
over my heart pounding upon every nerve ending.
Prayers for forgiveness shames a broken man.
The cracks so obvious,I fear God hesitates
to send me anything,as so I don't crumble where I stand.
Shall It be so before I've had a chance to enter the darkness?
Before I enter this field of black that I rely so much upon,
to hold even the slightest answer?
Hope strangles me,as the son colors the eastern sky.
And soon exposed, this field will haven't any significance.
