At Their Wedding
Shall we,
Dance?
It was at their wedding,
When first I ask.
You were a bridesmaid,
And I a groomsman.
We were expected to dance,
That first dance together,
And then,
Of course,
With others.
When first you were in my arms,
Our bodies fit together,
As if one,
And so we danced,
As if,
We were one.
Before that first dance,
Ended,
I asked you for a second one,
And also your name.
As that second dance ended,
I realized it had been,
Not the second we had,
Held each other,
Nor even the third,
But the fourth.
It was then,
I told you my name,
And ask for another dance.
Your smile,
And the way you melted,
Against,
And into me,
Said yes.
And so we spent their,
Wedding day,
Until the last dance.
He approached and said,
That the last dance was,
To have been saved for him.
As you spun away in his arms,
You whispered,
“Sorry”,
Smiled,
A tear ran down your cheek,
And also mine.
