Dream Cave

Were we the perfect teenage angst?
Or was it a dream?
An anthem of the angels raining down
on a dust-encrusted landscape
telling us we could swim in the mud
without drowning

The daytime sky weighed down on us
beneath the summer sun
and I wanted to paint it black
but the drugs donít work for free

And I smiled through the ribbons of light
somewhere on the other side of bent
listening to your wind-chime voice
tell me weíre the king and queen
of the beautiful thieves

And I let you take my hand
and lead me into the nothing
fuzzy blue lights steering us into the potholes
between the unbroken white lines
our hands bruised with black promises
that the road would eventually end
at the dream cave of our destinies
