The World's Brother, Pete Seeger

My mom introduced me at an early age
to a man whose soul was full of love
love for his fellow human beings
for god's gifts
the rivers
the trees

Where human's struggled against oppression
he saw a common bond
forged a friendship with a guy named Guthrie
sang for folk of all races
sang changing the status quo
sang for a party the government vilified

Blacklisted in the fifties
they couldn't extinguish his fight
cemented folk music with activism
always knew that peace was in the right

Not a pacifist at all costs ideologue
who sat high behind ivy walls
he took his music to the people
reached those impoverished and heard their calls

Such a beautiful man can we embrace his example
in this world so filled with hate
if so let's get this thing going
for there are children that just can't wait!
