Eyelash Thief

Her eyelashes fell like petals down her face
a bouquet of innocence falling to the floor
a fools truth held in her hands
glowing with the embers of sunset sands
turning cold in the moonlight

It wasn’t supposed to be this way
pallid and undefended
with downcast glances
empty eyes and the whispering tongue
of a thief

Life flowered, ripened and died
in the sullied moments between
the warm breath
and stale air of un-writeable time
imagining a different beginning
where flowers didn’t die on bruised cheeks
in the shadows of a moonlit night
