Flames to Ashes

Will these Flames to Ashes be reborn like the Phoenix?

The Phoenix was the first word that entered my mind when I finished reading the last line. I realize that wasn't your intent, but the last line "until we smolder to ashes" didn't strike me as a death, but an opportunity for rebirth.
