To Say You Own Her Is To Admit Defeat
You can never own another person,
Yet almost every man treats his lover
As his property,
As his rib,
As a gift for his own selfish needs.
You can never own another’s love.
It is for them to offer
And for you to earn,
For you to sacrifice,
For you to invest time and attention.
You can never own another’s body,
It is a privilege for the worthy.
A chase for those with a taste of adventure.
A game for the cats
That seductively chase their own tails.
Most men kill themselves over another’s affection.
I just sit here quietly twirling my drink,
Watching the moon from a distance,
Smirking at the stars,
Writing down my thoughts.
Yet almost every man treats his lover
As his property,
As his rib,
As a gift for his own selfish needs.
You can never own another’s love.
It is for them to offer
And for you to earn,
For you to sacrifice,
For you to invest time and attention.
You can never own another’s body,
It is a privilege for the worthy.
A chase for those with a taste of adventure.
A game for the cats
That seductively chase their own tails.
Most men kill themselves over another’s affection.
I just sit here quietly twirling my drink,
Watching the moon from a distance,
Smirking at the stars,
Writing down my thoughts.
