One Year
One year.
Where did it go.
Sweet little baby boy.
With the bubbly laughter.
And the dimples like your father.
Where did the time go?
It flew by.
I blinked my eye.
You were born.
And you cried.
I dried your eyes.
When tears came.
I watched you learn how to roll over and crawl.
Smile and giggle.
Stand on your own two feet.
And now you have started to take your first steps.
"Uh oh", "Mama" and "Dada" being your first words.
You're getting so big.
But I swear, you were just born?
Weren't you-- Little baby?
Gaige, my son-- Where did the time?
I blinked and it flew by.
But now look at you.
Teeth growing through your gums.
Making your smile big and beautiful.
You're beautiful, my baby boy with your big smile.
And dimples in your two round cheeks.
You're so adorable.
I love you so much.
And that's why it's finally here!
Today's the day.
Your day.
A year ago today.
You were born.
Came into the world on a hope, a dream and a wish.
I fought and died for you for nine months.
And then I endured pain that I will never explain.
All to bring you my life, my light into the world.
And so here I am, here to say.
Happy first birthday!
For today, you are a big boy.
My little baby.
You've gotten so big.
Within these twelve months.
And twelve days.
You have gotten so much bigger, smarter and stronger.
In so many ways.
And on this, this wonderful, wonderful day.
In the special, magical, wonderful place.
You are one year's old today.
For my son, Gaige Mathieu Pauly.
