70 percent water

I’m standing on the breeze’s edge
watching the waves crash against the rocks below
a white river bay on the edge of the ocean

There’s no one here on the moonless nights
tourist trap days slide into surfers paradise
and hiker stamina sweated back into the ground
wildlife lapping the diminishing puddles they leave behind

I come for the edgeless ocean
I come for the airstream that tears at my hair
and pulls at my clothes to fall away into the spaces between
like feathers trying to fly
one last time

I am a drop in unfathomable water
seventy percent of my body
sure it wants to drown and return
to the place my tears come from
