Everywhere I am It Is
It claws its way
Into my soul
It's over taking my control
It won't bow
Won't take a knee
Straightens it's back defiantly
It's in my eyes
It's where I live
Everywhere I am, it is
Hiding deep within
But just below the surface
A ravenous beast without purpose
The more I push
The stronger it stands
I will never be in command
The more it shows
The harder I try
To lock it down deep inside
It's in my eyes
It's in my skin
Everywhere I am, it is
Hiding just within
Deep below the surface
A bloodthirsty beast without purpose
I swallow the rage
It starts to creep
Up my throat and through my teeth
I bite it back
But it sits like bile
There is no room for denial
It's in my eyes
It's under my skin
Everywhere I am, it is
Hiding deep within
Layers below the surface
A biting fury without purpose

This is a really good poem to be read out loud as it has the cadence and structure of lyrics. There are striking lines such as "To lock it down deep inside" where the word "lock" is indicates a need to control "it," which is an unwanted feeling that keeps showing up and even seems the permeate the very air the author/narrator breathes. The poem has the overall effect of feeling like "it" (e.g. depression or melancholy) is stifling the author/narrator; it is literally everywhere. The third line "It's taking over control" feels like it needs another syllable (a one syllable word) to keep the flow of the cadence.
